Well I wouldn't go as far as saying it's the best game I've ever played :P Oddly enough (and a problem with GTA) is it's so similar to the other ones. I figure once I finish the missions I'll be setting this one up on the shelves and telling people how fun and difficult it was and blah blah blah

Good points for me:
Size: Game is frigging huuuuuuuuge! The city is so much more detailed than it has been and so big, I'm quite happy about that.
Difficulty: I'm only 30% of the way through it and I'm starting to grind my teeth and restart missions a few times before I can beat them, and I still have a whoooooole lot of game to go
Length: At nearly 20 hours of gameplay (not including messing around) and only 30% of the way through, I'd say the length of this game is excellent.
Dialogue and Creativity: Omg it's so funny xD All the radio, t.v., people, always throwing humor out. I'm always waiting to hear what's gonna be said next.
Wanted Level: I love the new system of escaping wanted level and how FAST you can get those stars, definitely a lot more fun to mess around with and a lot more challenging to escape!

Bad points for me:
Language: Apparently EVERYBODY drops f-bombs in the US xD I mean I can understand some swearing, but when even pedestrians are cussing you out over minute little things? Come ooooooooon.
Mission Driving: I -hate- having to restart a mission and wait to drive all the way across town all over again to get to the point I'm having difficulty with. If it's absolutely necessary, like being forced to escape wanted level on the way, that's fine, but just driving from one point to another over and over and over? Meh.
Crash Sensitivity, Breaks: They made crashing waaaaayyyyy too sensitive. Not only that, but apparently the breaks on all cars make you squeal your tires and skid down feet upon feet of road at slow speeds. I mean, when I can hardly accelerate and push parked cars, or accidentally rear end someone at a mediocre speed and cause the car to spin and flip...something needs to be changed.

Things I don't like or dislike:
Clothes: Yeah it's cool that you can buy threads and change, but come on, who cares enough to really put a lot of effort into it?
Relationships: I think it's a great idea. They added games that you can take your friends to play, even included difficulty driving and walking while drunk. But honestly? It's unnecessary and even annoying at times. Sometimes I'm trying to run through a bunch of missions and I get three calls of friends asking me to hang out, or I won't get any calls until the middle of a mission and I have to hang up on them and lose rating. It's fun when you're just messing around and need something to do, but for a game like GTA, not necessary.
Storyline: Simple, basic story. Granted I have been paying attention to it more than most games, but even then, not interested in all the details and quirks and twists. Just gimme the missions man!
Execution: At first I thought this was cool, being given the option to execute a victim. But then I realized it's really awkward...you have to choose on the spot to kill someone, which could be bad, or let them live, which might be worse. Human choice I understand, but in a game, I don't want to be given a choice that could possibly alter the entire game. Also, I really hate that I make a decision and then later wonder what the game would be like if I had made a different choice.

All in all, it's an excellent step up from recent GTA titles. I love GTA III, played that game to death and eventually lost interest in it. When Vice City came out, I could only stand it for a few hours before I quit.. it just... wasn't that great. San Andreas I was unimpressed with and never bought, and I was gonna pass on GTA IV until I heard eeeeeveryone saying how great it was. It's a hefty $60, but you sure as hell get your money's worth!

Yeah, I've been playing GTA since GTA II :P I played II, III, a little of Vice City, and barely any of San Andreas (mainly because they were just GTA II in a new city and not really that good). It's not so much like mario, where they change the entire game and the only thing that remains constant is the storyline: Save Princess Peach. They change all the worlds, most of the enemies, and usually remove most old things. GTA isn't like that, GTA stays in the same city with the same basic story (Guy with nothing to lose looking for $$) with the same dangers (crashing, wanted level) and the same kind of missions. The only thing that really changes between GTA games is graphics and mechanics, such as civilian reactions, cars, driving, so on.

You obviously haven't started into the later missions that you have to redo 5, 6, 7 or more times xD It's a major pain in the ass to drive across town and rape the entire mission except for that ONE part near the end that always kills you, only to have to drive ALL the fucking way back to the mission just to start shooting x.x (Ex: Three Leaf Clover. Good fucking luck with that xD)

As for the crash sensitivity.. I've OVERTURNED a pickup truck in a car smaller than a taxi just by ACCELERATING into it. I wasn't even going anywhere, I stole the dam car and accelerated into a pickup that was stopped in the intersection. The truck was pushed a few feet and then flipped over. The hell? That thing was easily twice the size of my car xD

They're the exact same city. You always play in Liberty City, that's why they made Vice City and San Andreas, so they have a GTA NOT in Liberty City. I'm not looking for an environment change, I'm looking for some kind of major change after 6 games. They could simply change the story between GTA games to get an entirely different aspect of the game. For example, instead of being some guy who becomes a mobster and runs jobs for gangs, they could have a GTA where you flip sides and become the cop (or FBI agent) in Liberty City, hunting down the gangsters, being tricked and lured into certain places and end up in shootouts. Or they could make YOU be the head mobster, taking your cronies around to run jobs, calling and hiring others to do jobs for you and then having to go and do them for yourself. The cops could raid your place and end up in a shootout with them, and/or you could have to answer to a boss and work together with other head mobsters to run missions, etc.

They don't do that. You're always just a guy that gets mixed up in organized crime and get paid to do other people's dirty work. Six games now and they haven't changed from that. Sure they add new guns, but the "new gun" hype dies after you use the gun a little bit. The new car hype dies after you've driven it a few times. The mass murder hype dies after you've been doing it for the other 5 games. The citizen emotions and reactions thing dies quickly since you hardly pay attention to them anyway. They keep changing and updating minimal things that really don't add much to the game itself. People always love having better graphics, but in reality a good game doesn't need amazing graphics to sell. That's where Mario and Nintendo hit where other companies and games miss. Nintendo works to make their games new and different, even if new an different means simply making an entire environment revamp. The consistent changes between Mario games are such: Different worlds, new and old enemies, majority new good guys, new game aspect (i.e. Water gun versus star bits), and new controls. Otherwise the rest of the game is the same, as you said; jump on enemies to kill them, storyline, playable characters, mechanics. But Mario isn't a game that needs brand spiffy new graphics to sell, new mechanics to be a good game. Part of what makes Mario such a good game is nostalgia, comparing an E for Everyone game series to a strictly M for Mature game series is entirely unfair, considering the target market is completely different.

So far I am very impressed and happy with GTA IV, although I am disappointed to know that I won't be playing it much after I finish the storyline and I may never reach 100% completion on the game, simply because once the story is gone the rest is just side stuff that I don't really care to do anyway. It's usually just busy work for when you get bored (like finding cars and running really easy side missions for people). $60 well spent!
