Furries don't really have that much of a basis for which to consider themselves a group, much less one that demands high respect.

For "Art Furries", people that like drawing, looking at or I suppose reading "furry fiction," why do you feel the need to label yourselves by it? Are there any people running around going "I'm an Abstractionist, this is how I define myself, because I enjoy abstract art. You better not insult us abstractionists." No, you have a preference in arts, nothing more. Sure there are "Comic Book Nerds" and "Anime Fans" but you don't see them giving rallying cries to protect themselves from supposed "persecution". Also, those other groups do not define themselves to such an extent as furries by their proclivities.

Furries who enjoy "fur piles", "yiffing" and basically mongling with other people in animal costumes are defining themselves as a group based upon a sexual fetish, which is seen as moronic, juvenile, and in fact is supremely exhibitionist. People who enjoy anal intercourse don't form groups and run around with large groups of people, hold conventions, do art, etc. It is a simple fetish, not a defining personality trait or lifestyle that should be used to define a person's persona.

The biggest complaint I have with the furry community is the whining about being persecuted. People think all of this is stupid, people think the participants are stupid for doing it. This is just how it goes, there will always be people who think what other people do is stupid, regardless of the activity or lifestyle. Atheists, Muslims, Christians, Libertarians, all of these groups have been made fun of and called stupid by other groups or even each other. That is life.

There is no anti-furry legislation, there are not furry only sections of restaurants, there are no laws stating furries cannot marry, furries aren't made to go to the back of the bus. As it stands now, they're just whining because people think that they're stupid. Everyone has a right to decide what is stupid or not. It's fairly easy to see you that if you put on a cat costume and define yourself as a feline then a majority of the populace will see you as freaks.

They try to demand respect as a group when really they are just defining themselves by one very shallow aspect of their life. And this shallow aspect is completely baffling to most of society, then they get pissed when they aren't understood.

Well this does explain the rest of your reply very well. If you don't understand it then why respond? You've completely missed the point.

Also, double-take on 4chan being anti-furry legislation. I don't think you know what legislation means. People protesting and calling you stupid is not legislation. The national government making a law that makes it illegal to wear fursuits would be.

You don't be upfront and exhibitionist about your sexual fetishes. Ever. When you do, you will be mocked and laughed at.

Yes, they're extremely open about it. In those forums, with like-minded people. I would be surprised if they're like that in public.

When those fetishes are exposed to the general public, that's when you get into conflict. And if you carry on like that, then sooner or later you will be found out and ruthlessly mocked. Even more so when you demand that it's something to be respected.

Those people who have parades do it for a day and go back to their normal lives. Most of them don't parade around in assless chaps all the time and have anal sex at the forefront of their life. Those that do get pushed aside.

It's the same thing with BDSM. Those that wear their collars and wrist-restraints in public get awkward looks on a good day.

As I've written before, being overtly exhibitionist all the time is not okay. This "furry pride" about exposing your sexual fetishes to everyone at all times is not going to get you respect. It gets you marginalized, as I'm sure you well know.
